Hazel’s Story – From Fear to Healing

Hazel’s Story – From Fear to Healing

Hazel was always a shy and timid community dog, often keeping her distance from people and other animals. Her timid nature made it hard for us to get close, but we still cared for her from afar, ensuring she was fed and safe. One day, while checking on her, we noticed something alarming — a large lump on her mammary gland, almost the size of a fist. This wasn’t just an ordinary swelling; it was a tumour that could have ended her life.

It took us three days, and some extra help, to finally catch her. Hazel was terrified, but we knew time was running out. We rushed her to the vet, where she underwent surgery to remove the tumour. After the operation, she stayed in a post-op shelter for a week, receiving daily care and monitoring until she was strong enough to return.

Hazel recovered beautifully. Though still shy, she is healthier now and, we hope, a little less fearful of humans. Her journey reflects the struggle of many community dogs — facing medical issues in silence, unnoticed until it’s almost too late. Hazel’s story is a reminder that every act of intervention can change a life forever.
